TidyWren privacy policy
Last updated: 2026-11-04. Publisher: Tanven (Tim Le Saint EI).
TidyWren collects nothing about you or your files. Everything happens on your computer: no account, no telemetry, no usage statistics, no crash reports sent unless you ask, no advertising. Nothing about you or your files is sent to the publisher (Tanven) or to third parties. Two exceptions, only if you want them: checking for new versions, which lets the website's host see your computer's IP address, and, during the beta, a message you send with “Report a problem” (below).
Your files
- TidyWren reads the files you show it (SVG, DXF, embroidery designs, ZIP archives) without changing them. They never leave your computer.
- It only moves a file when you ask it to: the safe bin sets your files aside, the “Tidy up” screen tidies your downloads into your library. It never deletes anything.
- "Prepare for my machine", "Copy for my machine" and "Gather in a folder…" write copies to the folder you choose, or to your USB drive; your original files do not change.
- A receipt you attach to a bundle's proof of purchase (PDF, picture, saved email) is copied into TidyWren's folder; the original stays where it is, unchanged.
- Your labels and favorites never move or rename a file: they are kept in
%USERPROFILE%\.tidywren, with the rest of your information (list below), and never next to your files.
Connections
- TidyWren only goes on the internet if you agree to it: for new versions (next point) and, during the beta, for a message you send with “Report a problem” (below). Without your agreement, it never connects. With version 1.0, a second connection will be added: activating your license, once per computer; this page will be updated before then.
- New versions: after your first checkup, TidyWren asks you once whether you want it to let you know about new versions (“Yes, let me know” or “No thanks”); you can change your mind whenever you like in “Help and settings” (“Tell me about new versions”). If you say yes, every minute while it is open, it reads a small file, which gives the number of the latest version, what is new and the address of its page: during the beta, in the beta's download folder, on telechargement.tanven.dev; after that,
https://tanven.dev/tidywren/version.json. It also reads it right away when you ask it to check for an update, even if you had answered “No thanks”: that click counts as your consent for that one check. It sends nothing: not your files, not your name, no identifier, no cookie, not your Windows version; only the request for this file, the same for everyone. As with any web page, the host, Cloudflare (tanven.dev and telechargement.tanven.dev), sees your computer's IP address: it processes it on Tanven's behalf, and its privacy policy gives no retention period for these logs. Tanven adds no counter or statistics to this file. The file is signed by Tanven: TidyWren checks this signature, and only offers you a new version if the file really comes from Tanven. Nothing downloads or installs without you: if you click “Update now”, and only then, TidyWren downloads the new version from telechargement.tanven.dev, checks that it is complete and really comes from Tanven, then installs it; Windows asks for your permission, and TidyWren opens again. This download sends nothing about you either. The Microsoft Store version does not read this file: the Store takes care of its updates. - One other exception, which stays on your computer: a small local server at the address 127.0.0.1, for the browser extension. It starts by itself after your first scan (the “Extension for online shops” box, in “Help and settings”); uncheck it to stop the server. It only answers the extension, with the code you give it, and only reads the list of your files. No other device can reach it.
- The links in the application (website, news) and "Send feedback" open in your browser or your email software, only when you click. An email you send us is only used to answer you.
- “Report a problem”, during the beta: a message is sent only if you click “Send”. Before that, you see what is sent: your text, your beta key, the version of TidyWren and of Windows, the date, the language and a few display details; for a problem, also the picture of the window and the end of the error log if you leave them, and the pictures you add (for feedback or an idea, nothing is attached). Your text is sent exactly as you write it, except the full paths of your folders and files, the name of your Windows account, email addresses, phone numbers and sharing links, which are replaced with “…” (for a path, only the drive letter and the file type stay visible), likewise in the error log. The picture of the window, however, hides nothing: it shows your file names, and sometimes the path of a folder. You can remove it before sending. The message goes to Tanven's service, at Cloudflare, in Europe; as with any web page, Cloudflare sees your computer's IP address. It is erased no later than one month after the end of the beta. Without internet, it waits and is sent the next time TidyWren opens. You can also write to contact@tanven.dev.
The browser extension (optional)
- It reads the product page title on Etsy, Creative Fabrica, Design Bundles, Font Bundles, So Fontsy, the Silhouette shop (Silhouette Design Store) and the embroidery shops Embroidery Library, Urban Threads, Kreative Kiwi, Designs by JuJu, Sweet Pea and Créatrices Broderie Machine. On the Silhouette shop and the embroidery shops, it also reads the design number shown on the page (for example “KK-959”), to look for it in the names of your files and folders. It reads nothing else on the page. It sends them only to TidyWren on your own computer (local address 127.0.0.1), which answers whether that bundle seems to be in your collection already.
- On a product page, the extension lights a badge (“!” or “?”) on its icon, which the website can't see. If you check “Show the banner on shop pages” in its settings (the box is unchecked at first), it also shows a banner at the bottom of the screen that only says “You already own this.” or “Maybe already in your collection.” The banner never shows the names of your bundles or files, nor how many there are: those details only appear in the extension's own window, which the website cannot read. A page that changes its own title could test words and see whether the banner appears; to avoid this, leave the banner unchecked: the icon badge is enough, and the page can't see it. From a shop page, the extension only asks TidyWren when a product page opens, or when you go back to it, and at most four times a minute for the same tab. The extension's window asks too, but only when you open it or search in it.
- It does not read your account, your purchases or your other tabs. Its settings (local port, extension code, product page checks on or off, banner on or off) stay in the extension's storage on your computer. To count its requests, it also keeps the times of the last ones, tab by tab, in memory only: they're erased when the browser closes.
- Chrome Web Store: the use of information read by the extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Where TidyWren keeps its information
Everything stays on your computer:
%USERPROFILE%\.tidywren: the list of your files and what the analysis learned about them, your choices ("Keep this one"), the thumbnails, your "My machine" profile (including, if you set them, your embroidery machine's speed and your rate per 1,000 stitches), your bundle records (license declared by hand, notes and settings, proof of purchase: shop, date, order number), your labels and favorites (the path of the file that carries them, with its name, size and fingerprint to find it again if it moves), the copies of your receipts and of each bundle's license (preuvesfolder), a copy of your bundle records, labels and favorites prepared for the backup (fiches-de-lotsfolder), your last choice in "Copy for my machine" (machine_copy.json), the list of the short names given to embroideries, and to the cutting files of a ScanNCut, copied to a USB drive (usb_names.jsonl: the date, the drive's name and serial number, the folder on the drive, the short name, the original name and the bundle; none of this is written on the drive), the checkup's HTML report, with the paths of your files, rewritten each time it is opened (checkup-report.html; depending on TidyWren's language,rapport-bilan.html,uebersicht-bericht.html,informe-diagnostico.html, orrelatorio-resumo.html), the safe-bin journal, the last five error messages (last-error.txt) and, in the installed version, the crash log (crash.log), your “Report a problem” messages kept on the computer (thesignalementsfolder: aTidyWren ….zipfile, ready to attach to an email, when a message is not sent; insignalements\a-envoyer, a message waiting for internet, erased as soon as it is sent), a copy of your license state, and the safe bin itself (safe-bin), which holds your files set aside. Do not delete this folder while the safe bin is not empty: restore your files first (File > Safe bin > Put back).%APPDATA%\Tanven\TidyWren.ini: your settings (recent folders, “Tidy up” folders, extension code, your answer about new versions, the date of the last check and the last version file read…).%LOCALAPPDATA%\Tanven\TidyWrenand the Windows registry keyHKCU\Software\Tanven\TidyWren: the state of your license or beta (your key, the date of the first launch, the last date seen).- In your library, a
.tidywren-inboxfolder: the history of “Tidy up” tidy-ups (which files were moved, from where and to where), used to undo them. - The Windows temporary folder (
%TEMP%): the installation log (Setup Log ….txt) and, after “Update now”, the downloaded new version (aTidyWren-maj-…folder), which TidyWren deletes afterwards. - A startup value in
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run, so that TidyWren starts with Windows: the installed version adds it the first time it opens. Untick “Start TidyWren when Windows starts”, in “Help and settings”, to remove it. - The installer registers the preview extension (the thumbnails in File Explorer) in the Windows registry. If it takes the place of another preview software, it notes it, and gives its place back when TidyWren is uninstalled.
- The fonts you install from the Fonts screen: “Just for me”, in
%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Fontsand underHKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts; “For all users”, with the permission you give Windows, in%WINDIR%\Fontsand underHKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Fonts, where every account on the computer sees it. “Uninstall” removes it and puts its file in the safe bin. - Your exports (CSV, checkup image, kits, copies taken for your machine, by default in
Documents\TidyWren - ready for my machine, proof folders: their summary never names a path on your computer) and your backups (File > Back up my collection, with their tracking fileTidyWren - suivi.json, a copy of your bundle records and of your purchase receipts, with your labels and favorites; File > Back up my records and receipts, which takes only those records and receipts, without your cutting or embroidery files): wherever you choose to save them.
License data
- A beta or license key contains your first name and a number (tester or order number). TidyWren checks it on your computer, with a signature; it is never sent, neither to the publisher nor to anyone, except your beta key with a message you send with “Report a problem” (above).
- If you buy a license from an online store, that purchase follows that store's privacy policy; TidyWren only receives the key.
- When the beta has ended, TidyWren closes, except for what gives you back what is yours: recovering your files set aside in the safe bin, undoing a tidy-up of your downloads so that your files go back where they were (the “Undo a tidy-up…” button on the end-of-beta screen; on the command line,
tidywren inbox undo), backing up your bundle records and purchase receipts (File > Back up my records and receipts…; on the command line, tidywren records save), and putting them back from a backup (File > Restore my records from a backup…;tidywren records restore). Your records and receipts stay yours: no key, no license, no date locks them.
After uninstalling
- Uninstalling removes the program, its shortcuts, the preview extension and TidyWren's startup value. It keeps your information, so that you lose nothing: the
%USERPROFILE%\.tidywrenfolder (with the safe bin and your files, and the copies of your purchase receipts), your settings, the state of your license or beta (so that it stays the same if you reinstall TidyWren) and the.tidywren-inboxfolders. At the end, it tells you how many files are still in the safe bin, and where. - Uninstalling TidyWren does not remove the fonts you installed with it, neither just for you nor for all users: your programs keep offering them. To remove one, use “Uninstall” on the Fonts screen before uninstalling TidyWren, or the Windows Settings (Personalization > Fonts).
- To erase everything: 1. if the safe bin holds files, reinstall TidyWren and restore them, and keep elsewhere the receipts of the
preuvesfolder that you need (“Back up my records and receipts…” takes them with your records, even when the beta has ended); 2. delete the%USERPROFILE%\.tidywrenfolder, the%APPDATA%\Tanven\TidyWren.inifile and the%LOCALAPPDATA%\Tanven\TidyWrenfolder; 3. in the Windows Registry Editor, delete theHKCU\Software\Tanven\TidyWrenkey; 4. delete the.tidywren-inboxfolders in your library.
The private beta
- What is kept: if you offer to be a tester (by email to contact@tanven.dev, or by message or comment on Facebook, Reddit, Discord or a forum), Tanven keeps your first name, your email address (or your name on that network or forum), your machines and their software, your Windows version and your browser, the size of your collection and where it is, whether you sell your creations and whether you have time for the beta, to choose the testers and answer you. If you are selected, Tanven also keeps your key (it carries your first name), your feedback, your screenshots, your answers to the questionnaire and, if any, your discount code, to run the beta and send you your free license.
- Why Tanven may do this: the agreement made with Tanven for the beta (GDPR, article 6 (1)(b)); a sentence of yours is only published with your written consent (article 6 (1)(a)), which you can withdraw whenever you like.
- For how long: until December 31, 2027 at the latest, then everything is erased. If you are not selected, your message is erased after the reply, unless you ask to be told when TidyWren comes out: it is then kept until that email. A sentence published with your consent stays published until you withdraw it.
- Who has access: Tanven alone. The contact@tanven.dev mailbox is hosted by Infomaniak (Switzerland). If you write on Facebook, Reddit, Discord or a forum, the service you write on (Meta for Facebook, Reddit, Discord, or the forum's operator) also processes your messages, under its own privacy policy.
Who is responsible, and your rights
- The controller: Tim Le Saint EI (French sole proprietorship), trading as Tanven, 173 rue de Courcelles, 75017 Paris, France, SIREN 900 056 680, contact@tanven.dev. Tanven has no employees: nobody else reads your messages.
- Why Tanven may do this (GDPR, article 6): checking for new versions relies on your consent (1)(a), which you can withdraw whenever you like in “Help and settings”; an email you send us is used to answer you, in Tanven's legitimate interest in answering people who write to it (1)(f); for a message sent with “Report a problem”, you are the one asking for help, and nothing is sent without your click on “Send” (1)(b). For the private beta, see “The private beta”, above.
- For how long: your emails (except those of the private beta: see “The private beta”) are kept for up to 3 years after our last exchange, then erased. What TidyWren keeps on your computer stays there until you erase it ("To erase everything", above).
- Who has access: Tanven alone; the website's host, Cloudflare, Inc. (United States), for reading the new-versions file and, when you click, downloading a new version and the messages sent with “Report a problem” (kept in Europe); Infomaniak Network SA (Switzerland), which hosts the contact@tanven.dev mailbox. Cloudflare takes part in the EU–US Data Privacy Framework; Switzerland is recognized by the European Commission as protecting data adequately. Nothing is sold, rented or lent.
- Your rights: you can ask to see the data about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict its use, to object to its use, to receive it in a readable format, and withdraw your consent whenever you like. Write to contact@tanven.dev: we answer within one month.
- A complaint: if you think your rights are not respected, you can contact the CNIL, the French data protection authority (www.cnil.fr, 3 place de Fontenoy, TSA 80715, 75334 Paris Cedex 07, France), or the data protection authority of the country where you live.
